This is a step-by-step method of connecting a wireless router to create wireless network connections in Windows XP. There are two ways of configuring the wireless router: one is through Windows Connect Now and the other is done manually. If the router you have supports Windows Connect Now then you can follow the instructions and do-it-yourself. If you have to do it manually then follow these steps: - Find your cable modem and unplug the wire from its port. If you are using a dial-up connection then you can set the wireless network by using ad hoc internet settings. If you have a modem, connect the wireless router to the modem. The modem should be connected to the internet so that your computer or laptop gets connected to the internet automatically. - Now plug your router to the power switch. The moment the WLAN or WAN LED lights up on the router, it will mean that the router has been successfully connected. - Once the router is connected; open Internet explorer and type the IP address of the router. This address is normally mentioned in the instruction manual. - The Next step is to create a password. Once you enter the password, you will get the router configuration page. Leave all the default settings as it is except for three items that have to be configured. They are SSID (setting the name of your wireless network), enable WIFI and set an administrative password so that no one else can tamper with the password.
