Wireless Laptop Service Providers
The wireless computing industry is booming today with millions joining the wireless brigade. The wireless devices consist of laptops, notebook PCs, tablet PCs, palmtops, personal digital assistant (PDAs) and other hand held devices; of course internet access is not restricted by any means to just laptops. Wireless networks use WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) technology in order to set up a wireless network and provide coverage in areas like homes, offices and small buildings etc. a wireless access point also called a WAP or AP is what is used to connect all your wireless devices together and form a wireless network. But WiFi is location specific and newer technologies are looking to replace that with a full roaming option.
The data transmitted by a WAP device is built that complies with the 802.11b and 802.11g IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standards and is transmitted at 2.4 GHz whereas the devices using the 802.11a standards transmit at 5 GHz. These are basically the standards set for the wireless routers which are responsible for joining multiple wireless networks together and filtering traffic according to the IP address by converting the signals from your internet connection into a wireless radio spectrum broadcast. There are other standards that are also used for routers called Super G and MIMO (Multiple in, multiple out) which are for larger spaces and distances.
Mobile computing also uses the WiMax (Wireless Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology which can be very useful in small businesses and the like as it can transmit data up to a distance of 48 kilometers with a networking speed of 70 Mbps. It is known to outperform the WiFi in terms of bandwidth and data security by the use of high-end encryption systems. Its range is suitable for Line Of Sight (LOS) and Non-Line Of Sight (NLOS) locations though it can fluctuate for larger distances. The communication protocols provided by WiMax can be the ideal base network for the ISP (Internet service provider) and the telecom service provider.
There are also broadband service providers for wireless laptops and all wireless devices per se and you can get a wireless broadband service through radio or cellular signals right on your mobile phone. You can easily get yourself equipped with such a connection for your wireless phones or laptops with vendors like MobilePro, Clearwire, Speednet, Plateau Meganet, Midwest Wireless, Mesa Networks, Commspeed, Ama Techtel, Prairie Inet, and Camvera. Obviously these are part from the regular cellular giants like Verizon, Sprint-Nextel, Cingular (now AT&T), and T-Mobile. So the evolution of wireless service providers can be summed up as follows: firstly we had WiFi which gave us access to small areas and services like wireless hotspots then came along internet service in various devices like mobile phones and then we have the latest which is the WiMax which is a WiFi standard that will overcome anything like distance and obstructions to provide a clear wireless connection. Of course with constant innovation there is a big scope of a wireless future ahead. Of course WiMax is still in its developmental stages in terms of being popularized in the market as most laptops will have to be re-engineered to accommodate this new standard but I don't think this is really going to be very long into the future when WiMax is going to capture the market.
